Tarāsh is to cut or to carve — the jeweller's and the stonecutter's word for taking material away until the planes appear.

The Taraash objects bring that cut to the desk and the dressing table. Faceted surfaces, edges that meet cleanly, forms that hold small things without announcing what they are for. Nothing is added to them. The shape is what remains after cutting.
